You have options when you play a Freeroll Tournament at Lodge Card Club.
You can minimize the amount of money you risk by rarely taking rebuys/add-ons.
You can maximize your chance of making the final table by taking every possible rebuy/add-on.
Or, you can do something in between.
This one-page guide will help you understand how Freerolls work so you can choose the right option for you.
Let’s go step by step through the stages of a Freeroll Tournament.
Note: The specific chip amounts listed below are for the bigger freerolls at Lodge Card Club San Antonio. The Austin location features different amounts.
Step 1. Registration: Initial entry fee gets you 15K chips
Every member starts with 15K after paying the entry fee.
If you want to minimize your risk, there’s no need to proceed to later steps.
Step 2. Rebuy period: Every $20 rebuy gets you an additional 15K chips (up to 5 at one time)
You can rebuy in $20 increments as long as your stack is at or below 15K. Every rebuy gives you another 15K chips. You can do up to 5 rebuys at once.
Whenever your stack is at or below 15K, these are your options:

- Rebuy for $60 and get 45K chips

*If you do the max rebuy of $100, you may pay a $5 “Dealer Appreciation” for an additional 5K chips.
Note: You can start the tournament with a maximum of 95K chips if you elect to do the $100 rebuy + Dealer Appreciation.
If your stack ever dips below 15K, you can rebuy again for any of the amounts listed above.
Step 3. Add-on break: Every $20 add-on gets you an additional 15K chips (up to 5 at one time)
You can add-on in $20 increments during the break, regardless of your stack size. Every add-on gives you another 15K chips. You can do up to 5 add-ons at once.
These are your options during the add-on break:
- Add-on for $20 and get 15K chips
- Add-on for $40 and get 30K chips
- Add-on for $60 and get 45K chips
- Add-on for $80 and get 60K chips
- Add-on for $100 and get 75K chips*
*If you do the max add-on of $100, you may pay a $10 “Dealer Appreciation” for an additional 10K chips.
How to Get Maximum Chips in Any Lodge Freeroll
It’s possible to start your tournament with the maximum 185K chips.
To do so, you must register during the add-on break. You can then rebuy for the max ($100) and pay the $5 Dealer Appreciation to get up to 100K.
From there, you can add-on for the max ($100) and pay the $10 Dealer Appreciation. That will bring your total stack to 185K.
Both Lodge Card Club locations run multiple Freerolls per week. Some Austin Freerolls use slightly different structures, but the most popular Freeroll at both locations uses the structure above.
Most popular Austin Freeroll: The $15K GTD Tuesday Freeroll
Most popular San Antonio Freeroll: The $10K GTD Friday Freeroll
Best of luck in your next tournament!
